This piece is called "Natural Abstraction" Abstraction is a term used in computer science to describe something that has only the necessary details remaining and the unecessary details have been removed. For this piece I took inspiration from nature and similar pieces of abstract work that I saw online to create a simple but interesting idea of a bug on a leaf spreading it's wings to either ward off predators or attract a mate so that it can continue its spiecies. Although this design is very simple it takes reference to my life as a whole and my love for nature, the inspiration came from being around nature from a young age as it was something I was always interested in, this is something that I took into consideration when researching for possible other inspiration, however I was unable to find works that I felt fitted with the theme I was aiming for which led me to use my own ideas and concepts more so than the designs and concepts of other creators. The code for this piece also reflects the theme of abstraction by using simple geometric shapes with different colours and basic code to mkae it easy to follow and leaving out details that aren't necessary, however this makes the code longer than possibly needed. When evaluating this piece, although it's quite simple the idea is what I believe drives the meaning of the image more than it's general design. I feel the delivery of the theme was more successful than the pice itself as the piece isn't very complex and without proper context with the meaning it isn't seen as art with a meaning. However with the context of the piece the excecution is much more successful.
